What year did Canada and the USA stop using silver in their coins?1966 was the last year Canada used 80% silver in their dimes and quarters, and 1967 was the last year for 50-cent pieces and dollars. Part way through 1967, Canada changed to 50% silver in their dimes and quarters and continued part way through 1968. US coins remained silver until 1964. From 1965 to 1969, 50-cent pieces of Kennedy were 40% silver.
